Mike Morgan and daughters

The earliest memories that I have of radio begin with my grandfather.  I remember sitting with him outside under a big oak tree and listening to the Nascar race every weekend.  This was long before big screen TV’s,… High Def,…and DVR’s.  You either took the time to sit and listen,….or you missed  it all together.  Maybe that is where my love began.  Radio seemed like something magical.   At the age of 17 I began a journey, and accepted a position in a real studio;  WPTM, WSMY. Back in those days, the station was located down the road from Weldon High School.  Can’t think of any other job that would have been as cool as a disc jockey,…especially during those trying high school days.  I worked there for approximately two years and quickly realized that the world of radio was where I wanted to be.  It became such a passion that after graduating from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1983,…I pursued a career in radio.  I enrolled in the Carolina School of Broadcasting in Charlotte, NC.

Once I received my degree,   I returned to Roanoke Rapids and was employed by WPTM, WSMY station.   My “radio” world expanded into several different positions, some of which included Announcer, Promotions Manger and News Director.

It was the job I had dreamed about since childhood,…however other opportunities presented,…and in 1987,…I accepted a position with the state of North Carolina.  I’m a believer that everything happens for a reason,…so I walked through the door that opened for me.

Although I have remained with the state for twenty four years, my  passion and love for the magic of radio has never faded.   I began working with First Media Radio as a part timer in late 2010.  You can catch me on the air Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the Great 98 FM, WTRG.

I am married and have two beautiful step daughters.  Live in the “country”,…and enjoy the outdoors.

NASCAR is my favorite sport.  My wife says that I would sit and watch ants race if given the opportunity.  Can’t really deny it,…I would. Not to many people admit it,…but I will.  I am a Jeff Gordon fan.  ( Go #24).   Have always enjoyed fishing and hunting,  but the newest favorite for me  is girls fastpitch softball.  Both of my step daughters play, and I help with the coaching staff of the eldest.  ( Go Carolina Lookouts and Go Lady Diamonds. )  The sport and the experiences  have taught me a lot about discipline and simply put,….the pure love of the game that shines through my girls.

I’m a lover of Rock and Roll,..but appreciate all types of music. It’s what makes the world go around.
